The activities of the Department that is the umbrella for the NRL for Mycobacteria focus on the identification of mycobacterial agents, antituberculous drug susceptibility testing, molecular typing, and maintenance of mycobacterial cultures.

The Department is accredited by the Czech Accreditation Institute. Within the Microbiology Laboratory Proficiency Testing Program, the Department of Mycobacteriology is responsible for the EQAS – Mycobacterial diagnosis. This Program is accredited by the Czech Accreditation Institute within the NIPH Proficiency Testing Expert Group.
