The activities of the Department with two NRLs focus primarily on the diagnosis of bacteria and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.

The activities of the Department cover few major areas: a) identification of bacterial agents, b) antimicrobial susceptibility testing, c) molecular typing of selected isolates, d) maintenance of the Czech National Collection of Type Cultures and providing type cultures.

The Department is accredited by the Czech Accreditation Institute. Within the Microbiology Laboratory Proficiency Testing Program, the Department of Bacterial Resistance and Food-Borne Bacterial Infections is responsible for the EQAS – Bacteriological diagnosis. This Program is accredited by the Czech Accreditation Institute within the NIPH Proficiency Testing Expert Group (No. 7001).
