NRC for Cosmetics is focused on activities in the field of cosmetology, cosmetic chemistry and experimental and clinical toxicology. It pursues research and reference activities and provides expert and consulting services. It develops and implements new methods for testing of cosmetics and other consumer products.
The Centre performs laboratory, instrumental and clinical studies for evaluation of safety and efficacy of cosmetic products. It identifies specific functions of active and protective cosmetic ingredients with the aim of public health protection and promotion. It consistently implements and utilizes alternative toxicological methods in cell and tissue cultures as a replacement of conventional animal testing.
The Centre provides methodological guidance to authorities for public health protection and participates in preparation and harmonisation of the legislation regarding cosmetics.
The head of NRC for Cosmetics represents the Czech Republic as a member of the Standing Committee and Working Group on Cosmetics at the European Commission.
The Centre is accredited by the Czech Accreditation Institute as a testing laboratory according to EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005.
